Indirect Restorations – Dental Inlays / Onlays Vancouver

Dental inlays and onlays are laboratory fabricated indirect restorations which are bonded to the tooth structure to reinforce the tooth under the functional forces.

What is a Dental Inlay?

They can be manufactured from porcelain, gold, or a composite resin. They are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay (which is similar to a filling) is used inside the tooth’s cusp tips.

What is a Dental Onlay?

A dental onlay is a more substantial reconstruction. While the process is similar to that of the inlay, the onlay extends out over one or more of the cusps of the tooth. Traditionally, gold had been the preferred material for onlays and inlays alike. However, in recent years, porcelain has become increasingly popular due to its strength and color which can better match the natural color of your teeth.
